Are We Getting Off-Track? (John Kerry's Military Record)

Previously I asserted that Sen. John Kerry’s military record is a campaign issue because he has used it to support his qualifications for office. This has also been noted by others; for example Columnist Thomas Sowell writes:

Unfortunately, Senator Kerry himself has made it matter by incessantly parading his four months in combat long ago. There are men who served in combat for years, who have sustained devastating wounds in battle, and who have won the Congressional Medal of Honor, who don't talk about it as much as John Kerry does.
There are reports that Sen. Kerry’s campaign has admitted his first purple heart may have been awarded for an unintentional self-inflicted wound (Drudge Report, Aug. 24, 2004). Consequently war veterans and POWs, such as Sen. Bob Dole, have spoken sharply about Sen. Kerry’s exploitation of Vietnam and our veterans:
"Maybe he should apologize to all the other 2.5 million veterans who served. He wasn't the only one in Vietnam. And here's a good guy, [and a] good friend. I respect his record. But three Purple Hearts and [he] never bled that I know of. I mean, they're all superficial wounds. Three Purple Hearts and you're out." And indeed John Kerry was able to get himself out of a scheduled year-long tour in Viet Nam in only four months. And Bob Dole and countless other veterans have never forgotten that. - CK Rairden, Waswhington Dispatch
Meanwhile Judicial Watch is calling for an investigation into Sen. Kerry's Metals and anti-war activity.

While Kerry’s military record will remain in the public view as long as he continues to provide misleading information, what is much more important is his stand the issues. However, on the issues he tends to present contradictory information as well.
