Atheist Newdow Fails to Stop Inauguration Prayer

godly-heritage.jpg
America's first president was convinced of the gracious guiding hand of God on the founding of our nation, and he chose to speak of that "Divine Interposition" in his first inaugural address.

--Presidential Prayer Team

Atheist Michael Newdow lost in his bid Jan. 13 to have prayer removed from President Bush's inauguration. An appeal is likely. Newdow -- the same man who last year lost a Supreme Court case concerning "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance -- had filed suit in federal court seeking to prevent prayer from taking place at the Jan. 20 inauguration. His lawsuit specifically targeted the invocation and benediction. He asked the court for a preliminary injunction. [more]

Newdow, who unsuccessfully tried to remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, argued that allowing a Christian minister to give prayer at the Jan. 20 ceremony would constitute a governmental endorsement of religion and thereby violating his constitutional rights. [more]

Excellent, the inaugural prayer remains in tact for the moment. Now, will students in government schools, where prayer is banned, be able to watch the inauguration?
