Blogswarm Targets Air America

New York City's Department of Investigations has discontinued funding the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club after allegations of corruption. Part of the inquiry revealed that the organization’s founder "invested" city funds in the liberal radio network, Air America. [Source: FoxNews]

The allegations that Air America took money inappropriately were reported by Radio Blogger Brian Maloney and has led to a proverbial blogswarm involving HughHewitt, PowerlineBlog, Captain's Quarter's and Michelle Malkin, to name a few.

The attack on Maloney is also in high gear with the Daily Kos suggesting that the story is "apparently fake". This conclusion perhaps follows from Air America’s "we are under new management" explanation:

...the company that the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club officials gave money to, Progress Media, has been defunct since May 2004.

... The current owners of Air America Radio have no obligation to Progress Media‚s business activities.

Yet, a more recent statement to FoxNews contradicts these:
The Bronx News reports that hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars were diverted to Air America's former management company in the form of a loan, which was to be paid back with interest but was not. An Air America spokesman says, "We're committed to paying this money and the terms are being worked out... We are awaiting direction from the investigation into how to proceed."
The story interests me because I've listened periodically to the Charles Goyette Show (a formerly conservative radio host for Clear Channel) to to get an understanding of the arguments made by liberals who oppose the war in Iraq. Anti-conservative indication emanates continuously from the network until one wonders if Air America stands for anything other than opposition to Republicans.

For those new to the story see this Washington Times Editorial, more from Michelle Malkin, and the latest from Kevin Maloney. PardonMyEnglish is worth a read, NewsMax has Flaps Blog has a round-up.
