Communion, Salvation, Abortion and Sin

Remarkable statements were made by Colorado Springs Bishop Michael Sheridan (quoted by Lifenews):

"Any Catholic politicians who advocate for abortion, for illicit stem cell research or for any form of euthanasia ipso facto place themselves outside full communion with the Church and so jeopardize their salvation," Colorado Springs Bishop Michael Sheridan wrote.

"Any Catholics who vote for candidates who stand for abortion, illicit stem cell research or euthanasia suffer the same fateful consequences," Sheridan added.

Bishop Sheridan drew a line in the sand and revealed both a strong conviction that abortion is the murder of a living person and his belief that salvation is tied to communion with the Church and can be lost through the actions of man. I applaud the Bishop's courageous stand for the glory of God on behalf of the pre-born. I add that while Communion with the Church can be lost as a result of sin, revealing a person's eternal state before God, salvation depends only on the work of Jesus Christ (not the actions of man).

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:24)
