Debate 2 - Initial Thoughs
Bush won, not by much, but he won. During most of the debate, rather than answer questions, Kerry played the prosecutor using 20-20 hindsight and painted America in a desperate and negative light. He also made promise after promise that are inconsistent with his voting record but yet tailored for the voting public. Nevertheless, given Kerry’s assumptions, his criticism of Bush was powerful and most likely endearing to liberal voters.
Bush was much better animated and composed than the first debate but lacked clear answers to several questions. Particularly, I thought he was weak on the federal debt and deficit and did not give me the confidence that his administration would be effective in reducing it. However, I felt Bush nailed Kerry on what is presently the most important issue: Iraq. In addition, he gave solid honest answers and spoke confidently, consistently, and optimistically.
