Democrat Zell Miller, Speaker and Life Advocate

zellmiller.jpg
Many listened to Democrat Zell Miller's powerful speech at the Republican convention on Wednesday night. Concentrating on Kerry's repeated votes against military action and expenditure, Miller stated,

Together, Kennedy/Kerry have opposed the very weapons system that won the Cold War and that is now winning the War on Terror. Listing all the weapon systems that Senator Kerry tried his best to shut down sounds like an auctioneer selling off our national security but Americans need to know the facts.

What you may not realize is that Miller also has had a dramatic conversion from an abortion rights supporter to a strong pro-life advocate (LifeNews, Sept. 1, 2004). He has had a reputation for changing his position on a number of issues in a "zig-zag" like manner but yet claims his party left him. If this is true (probably) all I can say is it's scary when the liberal of yesterday is touted as the "conservative" of today. Disclaimer: Conservative is used very loosely in the preceeding sentence.

Nevertheless, I did like Miller's concluding statement,

I can identify with someone who has lived that line in "Amazing Grace," "Was blind, but now I see," and I like the fact that he's the same man on Saturday night that he is on Sunday morning.... In this hour of danger our President has had the courage to stand up. And this Democrat is proud to stand up with him.
