The case became widely publicized because Bowersock is the mother of a well-known Phoenix entrepreneur who has been outspoken about the case, the use of psychics to locate her mother and frequent searches in the desert for her mother's body.

Later, police found discrepancies in Benderly's description of events and within ten days he committed suicide [more].

Police have now made warrants for the case public, revealing drops of blood, Bowersock's cell phone and purse, Benderly's passport and a large amount of cash. [KPHO]

Update (1/10/04): AZCentral - After three days of intensive searching in the bleak desert south of Phoenix, police and volunteers found not a trace of Loretta Bowersock.

Despite the cellphone-tower records, the gas-purchase receipts and a map left open to the area, 15 trained searchers and six cadaver dogs couldn't find the body of the 69-year-old Tempe woman who vanished Dec. 14.

Update (1/17/02): More on Benderly but not Loretta Bowersock.
