Digital Picture Development

Confused about where to have your digitial pictures developed? I found the following review very helpful.

. . . I’ve chosen WinkFlash.com as my regular online photo developer. The simple everyday low prices and flat shipping rate won me over. Since the quality of the prints was as good, or better, than most of the places I tried, and because I do most of my photo editing on my own photo editing software, WinkFlash was the best deal for my purposes.

Not everyone will agree. Your needs and priorities in photo developing may be different. If you’re looking for fast service, online “extras” or only like matte prints, SnapFish, Ophoto, or RitzCamera might be better choices based on your criteria. Hopefully this experiment will save you some time and money in your search for the right online photo developer.

With this recommendation I tried Winkflash and received well-done 4x6 prints three days after they were ordered. Shipping was cheap, the cost was only $0.18 per picture and the first 10 were free. The online software was also very easy to use. At the inexpensive price I was concerned about quality but found the prints equivalent to other services that I have used in the past (Walgreens and Walmart). A couple of other very attractive Winkflash features included $0.99 flat-rate shipping (no matter how many photos), unlimited online storage, and an easy picture share feature (via email).

This blog entry tends to get a lot of traffic so I thought I would update it with some additional information. Since my posting Snapfish has lowered its rates to 19 cents per print and includes addition features that some may find useful. For example, after uploading your digital images you can edit them or do basic image processing (lighten, darken, etc.).

Since March, Winkflash has changed to FREE shipping no matter how many prints you have. I don't know if they had this feature back in March (since I just discovered Winkflash on my own a week ago), but they have a feature where a person can request a blank CD-R, burn their .jpg's, and then ship it back to Winkflash. All of this is FREE - the CD-R disk, the shipping to get it to you, and the shipping to have it sent back to Winkflash! I was almost temped to use this feature but I needed my prints pretty quickly. I uploaded my .jpg's Tuesday and I'm still waiting to receive the photos (2 8"x10") 4 days later. I did receive an e-mail from them Wednesday saying that my photos were finished and sent to me though.

Up loaded photos nearly 2 weeks ago and still not recieved any photos, response emails or any other contact despite numerous emails from me.
It seems when all is well the system is good but it goes off, it stinks!!!

In the UK there is one site to try for my money - http://www.pixdiscount.co.uk/

I printed 50 prints for 10p each and had them back to me in a few days. Then I saw that they give HUGE discounts for bigger orders. I just received my 3 packages of 1200 prints for 5p each. I can't believe people actually are happy paying 18c..for once we in the UK have better prices than the yanks
