Fake but True Alert
Richard Wolffe (Newsweek): What did you think of the bloggers' role in the Dan Rather affair?
Ana Marie Cox: I think they did a disservice to the debate because they made the debate about the documents and not about the president of the United States. There was another half to that story that had to do with verifiable events of what Bush may have been up to.
Me: These events, were they verified by the fake memos? Did bloggers do a disservice to journalism by exposing fraudulent memos that reflected poorly on a presidential candidate shortly before an election? Even though the memos were fake, was the story true?
I think the Wonkette walked into a hornets nest because Michelle Malkin, The American Mind, IntheBullPen, Powerline, and INDC all have more - much more.
