False ideas are the greatest obstacles to the reception of the gospel
The title of this post, a statement made by J. Gresham Machen, is quoted along with many other notable writers in this post by Theologica on the anti-intellectualism of the evangelical mind. I'm struck by the appeal to spiritualism that forms the basis for the modern (evangelical) Christian's drive away from intellectual endeavor.
Anti-intellectualism is a disposition to discount the importance of truth and the life of the mind.
