Fight for Marriage May 24

The Family Research Council's call to protect the family is worth considering. Churches are asked to take a stand for the benefit of society and the family by applying God's Word in opposition to homosexual marriages.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last night, more than 500 churches and 1,500 radio stations from across America joined the nation's leading pro-family leaders in an historic live simulcast. Focus on the Family's Dr. James Dobson, Prison Fellowship's Chuck Colson, National Evangelical Association's Ted Haggard, Bishop Wellington Boone of the Fellowship of International Churches and Family Research Council's Tony Perkins gave a stirring call to Christians nationwide to engage in the fight for marriage by demanding passage of a Constitutional amendment to define marriage as one man, one woman.

"Reaching hundreds of thousands of Christians, this broadcast is just the beginning of FRC's efforts to mobilize the tens of millions of Americans who believe marriage is worth defending," said FRC's Perkins. "Every national poll has shown that more than two-thirds of the American public opposes redefining marriage. We're committed to turning that statistic into action on Capitol Hill."

Dobson told last night's audience that the legalization of same-sex "marriage" will seriously threaten religious freedom and force schools to teach homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle. Colson spoke of the negative impact of sanctioning motherless and fatherless homes. Bishop Boone forcefully debunked the argument made by homosexuals that their push for marriage is equal to the push for civil rights by black Americans in the 1960s. Perkins called on viewers and listeners to reign in the tyrannical judiciary, that is largely responsible for the push to redefine marriage, by calling each of their two U.S. Senators to pass the Federal Marriage Amendment.

"If Congress fails to act, there is no doubt that activist judges will bring same-sex 'marriage' to every state in the union. Until now, the Church has largely been on the sidelines - but the passionate response to last night's event shows that Christians are beginning to enter the game. I believe the impact of a fully engaged Church will change the political landscape, and it will dwarf the efforts of those who are seeking to redefine marriage and family."
