God is Independent

In a recent interview Baroness Warnock answered the question, “Is there a God?”.

Q: Is there a God?

A: There have always been gods, either as objects of fear or of aspiration. Our ideas of God change with our understanding, both of ourselves and of the rest of nature. I doubt whether such changing ideas will ever disappear.

In this generic humanistic answer, Warnock states that "god" exists as a reality that is entirely dependent upon the experience and perception of man. This rationalistic view embraces both relativism and pragmatism, and bears a marked resemblance to the philosophy of Frederic Schleimacher (1768-1834), a German theologian who is regarded by many as the most influential liberal theologian of the nineteenth century. Schleimacher placed the essence of Christianity in intuitive feelings rather than the substance of objective divine revelation.

The unifying factor in both (humanistic) philosophies is the essential role of man in defining the reality of God. While most Christians conceptually find this system of thought to be in error, in practice they often embrace elements of it by considering God's grace to be dependent on their perception of it.

God is independent of His creation and His choice to place His love on people is independent of their perception of it.

Rom. 5:8 - But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
