Iranian Christians Suffer Persecution
At least 80 Christian leaders attending the general conference of the Iranian Assemblies of God, being held near Tehran, were arrested and questioned following a police raid three days ago. Ten pastors taken into custody are still being held, and their families are not being allowed to communicate with them. [Worldnetdaily]
The article goes on to describe the coercion, oppression and intimidation of Christians by the "theocratic" Islamic government including overt monitoring and requisition of church membership lists. Compass Direct News Service, while describing the incident, revealed that Muslim converts to Christianity are subject to the death penalty.
As I read this report I was awed by the incredible courage of the Iranian Christians. They live, day-to-day, under the weight of persecution and worship on Sundays with the threat of arrest. Their boldness and strength reflect a deep faith in God that enables them to face circumstances that most Americans have only read about. Please pray for them and, as you go to church, appreciate the freedom that God has granted knowing that to whom much is given, much is required.
