More Facts Contradict Kerry's Charges about Al Qaqaa

CNN is showing a Pentagon briefing with an Army officer who is describing how the explosives at Al Qaqaa were destroyed in June 2003 after having captured it in April 2003. I'll have more as the story breaks. - Captain Ed

Foxnews reports that the U.S. Team Took 250 Tons of Iraqi Munitions [hat tip: Poliblogger].
Bill at INDC states, "Recall that the IAEA's initial estimate of about 380 tons of RDX and HMX was revised downward to about 200 tons of HMX that was marked by the UN. The rest was not in question."

Powerline's Hindrocket concludes (among other things), "The obvious conclusion is that the New York Times and John Kerry shot from the hip, accusing the Army of incompetence when they didn't know the facts."

ABC News has picked up the story as well and reports:

An Army unit removed 250 tons of ammunition from the Al-Qaqaa weapons depot in April 2003 and later destroyed it, the company's former commander said. A Pentagon spokesman asserted that some was of the same type as the missing explosives that have become a major issue in the presidential campaign.

But those 250 tons were not located under the seal of the International Atomic Energy Agency as the missing high-grade explosives had been and spokesman Larry Di Rita could not definitely say whether they were part of the missing 377 tons.

More on the explosives/seals issues can be found here and here.
