Mrs. Laura Bush Shows Grace, Class

Responding to Theresa Heinz-Kerry's gaffe that Mrs. Bush never had a "real job" (despite working for 10 years as a school teacher), the First Lady showed grace and compassion.

"Mrs. Bush knows that some days are more difficult than others when your husband is running for president," said her spokesman Gordon Johndroe, "and she has a lot of empathy for her."

I'm reminded of the Proverb, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."

One interesting aspect of this interaction, commented on by Beldar, is what I would call "awkward wording" by THK as she describes her relationship with her husband. "I think what the American people really want is to make sure the companion to the president supports him," Mrs. Kerry said. Perhaps this strange wording is attributable to a cultural difference between the Kerry's and others. I noticed a similar awkwardness during the final debate as John Kerry said he "married up" and then talked about his mother before discussing his wife.

Update:

More from the Dawntreader and Michelle Malkin. Parableman says, "Teresa Heinz Insults My Wife." I have to agree - she insulted all homemakers including MY wife.
