Party Scare Tactics . . . Not So Bright
While Sen. John Kerry promises Bush is going to reinstate the draft, Republicans claim "liberals" are trying to ban the Bible [more from Poliblogger]. Exaggeration for the purpose of scaring constituents is manipulative deceit - it is lying. And, a position built on exaggeration is not worth holding. Accurately comparing the views or actions of an opponent with the truth is the best vehicle to win a debate. It establishes a lasting credibility and enables individuals to change their views on the basis of propositional truth rather than guilt or fear.
Is Bush going to reinstate the draft? Are liberals going to ban the Bible? One could extrapolate and arrive at either conclusion. However, extrapolation doesn't reveal the truth. If it did every forecaster would be a prophet.
