Pentagon: Documents are Fake

More from the Powerline Guys on the CBS document scandal:

KELLY WRIGHT [FOX NEWS]: Tony, here's the latest that we're finding out on this story. At least three Pentagon sources believe the documents about President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard are fakes. CBS as you mentioned is standing by its story

Note: while it appears this is unverified, the number of sources and experts that hold the documents in great suspicion continues to grow. However, it seems that many individuals become have become polarized about their political orientation and believe what they want to believe. For those who are irrationally opposed to the President and/or his ideas, the documents are either authentic or true (see my poll to the right). The validity of the evidence does not seem to matter - what does matter and what Dan Rather asserted is that President Bush did what the documents purport. As a result, if forgery is proven it will have little impact on the belief that the documents were used to motivate.

What do you think? Also, if you haven't seen the document animation now is the time: click here. Here is an even better high resolution simulation: click here and an excellent animation is found here.

Update:

To illustrate my point (above), from the Blogs for Bush Website here is a quote made by a supporter of John Kerry:

First, let us fully support Dan Rather and CBS whole-heartedly, whether the documents are forged or not the issue cannot be allowed to die down untill Bush Jr. talks about it. Well, check the facts, He on Tim Russert interview said" we had connections' does it say amply enough. Please someone 'research it'

Update:

Here is another example of an individual - actually a key CBS witness - who thinks forgery of Killian documents is immaterial.

Powerline Blog (New – 9/13) : (Note: One of CBS’ two witnesses is Robert Strong, an English professor who is a former administrative officer for the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam Years. One of Powerline's readers interviewed him.) [Strong] said that he believed that the CBS documents were genuine, but admitted that he "cannot vouch for the documents’ authenticity." Further, Strong said that he doesn’t think it matters whether the documents are genuine are not. . . . Strong acknowledged that he had "no personal knowledge about Bush’s service."

Update:

In another entry I continue this discussion on those who report the evidence as false but the supported story as true.
