« Congressional Probe Called As Schiavo Death Deadline Looms | Main | Terri Schiavo Starvation Began Today »

Commentary: March 18, 2005

Playing politics with Terri's life

A handful of Democrats decided late yesterday to begin to leverage the life of Terri Schiavo in an attempt to win concessions on certain provisions of other Senate action. The move was a despicable example of the level to which the Senate Democrats are willing to stoop to try to salvage some sort of achievement in the 2005 session. - more from Kevin McCullough [HT: ExposingtheLeft]

If God wants her, let her go. If I were in her shoes, and most people I have talked with about this agree, I'd want not only the feeding tube removed, but an appointment with Dr. Kevorkian to make it more comfortable. IMHO life is precious when it is not painful and when it is productive. I'd never want the courts, legislature, or a few religious groups to dictate the importance of life to me. This is a personal thing and since Terri's husband is most in tune with his wife's desires (as an adult) he is rightfully the one to make this very personal decision. I pray that the government and religious groups focus on strengthening their parishioners faith and not make this their battle (but it is too late for that).

God given life is precious because of the value placed upon it by the Transcendent Source not because it is painless or has some ambigious characteristic associated by some with quality. Thou shalt not kill applies to all human life, not just life that meets a certain standard of comfort or acceptability. Consequently, Dr. K is a murderer.

Unfortunately, Terri's husband is unaware of what her wishes truly are and has an conflict of interest (three affairs and two children) and potentially other reasons to silence his wife. Please read blogsforterri.com.
