Response by Sen. Kerry Levels Charges at the President

Previously I entered the tenious fray of Sen. John Kerry's use of exaggerations to promote his political agenda. His response to his critics is an attack:

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) went on the offensive Thursday, accusing the independent 527 group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth of being a front for the Bush reelection campaign. The group has been running television ads in several battleground states that say Kerry has been dishonest about claims he has made about his Vietnam service.

Typcial .... the criticism of Sen. Kerry is "untrue" because it is coming from a group backed by the President of the United States. The best response, in this situation, is the truth.

For a political scientist, a very interesting study would be the examination of polical candidates and their contituents and their response when caught in obvious error. The profound inability of politicians, both Republicans and Democrats, to admit error is fascinating and reflects in an exaggerated manner on human nature.
