Study Shows the Decline of Marriage Among Christians
You can understand why atheists and agnostics might have a high rate of divorce, since they are less likely to believe in concepts such as sin, absolute moral truth and judgment. Yet the survey found that the percentage of atheists and agnostics who have been married and divorced is 37% - very similar to the numbers for the born again population. - Barna
The Barna Group published a sobering survey of 3614 adults that found statistical equivalence between the divorce rates in both Christians and non-Christians [thanks to Worldmagblog for the link]. The study found:
- Born again Christians have the same likelihood of divorce as do non-Christians.
- Multiple divorces are also unexpectedly common among born again Christians (23%).
- Catholics were substantially less likely than Protestants to get divorced (25% versus 39%, respectively).
- Among protestants those most likely to get divorced were Pentecostals (44%).
- Protestants: Presbyterians had the fewest divorces (28%)
- Few Americans (one-in-seven) and a minority of Christians agree that divorce is sin when adultery has not been committed.
"Born again Christians" were defined in these surveys as people who said they have made "a personal commitment to Jesus Christ that is still important in their life today" and who also indicated they believe that when they die they will go to Heaven because they had confessed their sins and had accepted Jesus Christ as their savior.
Christian influence is waning and will continue to decline as those with a "personal commitment to Jesus Christ" redefine their religion through a personal mystical experiential relationship while ignoring the very standards Jesus referred to when He said, "If you love you will keep my commandments."
Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? (Matt. 7:4)

Comments
I think it's horrible that christians, and i mean those who have accepted Christ as their living Savior, can keep that name and continue to sit in services without feeling convicted of their faults. Of course Jesus forgives all more times that we deserve, however to say that divorce (when fornication and/or abuse was not involved)is not a sin and to be in a leadership position in a church and hold that stance is purely hypocritical. Revival anyone?
