Supreme Court Nominee Samuel Alito and Roe v Wade

This is the first time, since Robert Bork in 1987, that we have a Supreme Court nominee who everyone thinks will likely overturn Roe v. Wade. Are there 50 votes in the Senate to confirm Alito? Politpundit does the analysis and concludes,

That makes the roll call tally 50-54 votes in favor of this nomination. With the vice presidentâ€™s tie-breaking vote, confirmation is almost certainly assured.

Lucas Pillman writes,

One of the best thing about Alito is that he is on the record against Roe. If you are serious about the Constitution you have to be. No one doubts him on this issue. What this means?

... the biggest battle about Roe is probably about to take place. Now is the time to stand up for life if there ever has been a time in the last 20 years and save those who are innocently stuck in "death Roe."

Indeed, even Stephen Peroutka supports Alito. Now is the time to preempt the filibuster.

It is not guaranteed that conservative judge Samuel Alito would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, the court's landmark ruling ensuring a woman's right to abortion. However, he has sharply different views from the justice he was picked to replace, Sandra Day O'Connor, and could shift the court to the right on the issue. - Newsday
