Target: the Customer is Always Right
In a strategic move that is likely to please many Christian conservatives, Walmart announced it will match donations given to the Salvation Army bell ringers outside its store entrances. This comes on the heals of a controversy over Target's decision to prohibit the Salvation Army from fundraising at the entrance to its stores.
Now it appears sales at Target may be lagging other retailers, perhaps as a result of this controversy. [Free Republic via Hugh Hewitt]
What many do not realize is that other mainstream retailers have also banned that Salvation Army from its stores including Home Depot, Circuit City, Barnes & Noble, Loews, and Toys R Us.
For the moment, it appears Target is the symbolic target of indignation. Let other retailers take note: the customer is always right. Meanwhile, Walmart is likely to rack up record sales by exploiting Target's blunder.
