The Supreme Court and Prayer

From the Family Research Council:

The U.S. Supreme Court today refused to decide whether recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance by public school children violates the U.S. Constitution. Instead, the High Court ruled that the plaintiff, atheist Michael Newdow, did not have custody of his daughter on whose behalf he sued and therefore he was not entitled to bring suit.

California law requires every elementary public school to begin each day with an "appropriate patriotic exercise" and most schools do so by having a voluntary recitation of the Pledge. Newdow's daughter did not object to this practice. Her mother is a Christian and is also not opposed to the recitation of the Pledge. FRC filed a brief in this case and I believe the Supreme Court should have used this opportunity to uphold the right of school children to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Look for more atheists to come out of the closet in the near future with new attacks on the Pledge. The High Court will not be able to sidestep this issue for long.
