Tsunami Updates - Donations Top $2 Billion

Aid pledges for Asia's tsunami victims reached two billion dollars on a tide of New Year sympathy, but the United Nations warned it would take weeks for help to reach many survivors and that the death toll would likely rise to 150,000. [more]

A multinational force of aid workers, military aircraft and ships descended on Asia as global tsunami relief pledges topped $1.85 billion, but the hundreds of tons of aid created a logistical nightmare. The hardest part still proved to be getting aid from clogged airports out to areas rendered barely accessible by the destruction of roads, phones, boats and harbors -- but some aid was finally getting through Saturday, six days on.
