Upgraded to Movabletype 3.1
On Aug. 31 Six Apart released MovableType 3.1. Having previously purchased and installed version 3.0 this upgrade was free. A few of the main reasons for upgrading include the addition of subcategories, dynamic pages and post scheduling. While these are motivational in and of themselves, the free plugin pack has some fantastic modules. The best of these, in my opinion, is MTBlackList 2.0. This spam filter is easy to use and highly effective against the notorious spam-bots that seem to be plaguing many (including me) in the blogging world.
Upgrading was easy - just uploading the new files, changing a few permissions and running a cgi. BlackList installed flawlessly as well. I was up and running in under one-half of an hour and blocking spam in just a few minutes.

A quick update - MTBlackList is working great. In the short time following the initial installation I've blocked five spammed messages.

Second update - I had previously created a test blog which I decided to remove. After selecting "delete" on the menu next to the test blog's entry I was asked if I really wanted to permanently delete this "1 weblog". I clicked on "yes" and to my surprise found both "bLogicus" and "test" were gone. Fortunately I had recently backed up my data based (except this current entry). I'm still working on restoring my templates ... I'll keep you posted.

I just recently installed 3.01D and would like to upgrade as well, but wasn't clear to me what files I needed to upload for an upgrade. Did you find instructions somewhere for 3.01D to 3.1 upgrade?

The instructions were not in an obvious place - they were in the "doc" directory created by the upgrade archive. Here is a link to the instruction I followed:

Well, my blog is now back up and running after the brief crisis discussed previously. MovableType technicians have already responded and are looking into the problem (being a registered user is great). Providentially I had backed-up everything except the comment related templates before upgrading and was able to restore all entries and comments.
