U.S. Senate says Yes to ESC Research
The U.S. Senate voted today on a number of stem cell bills. Senate bill 3504, which bans fetal farming, the practice of harvesting body parts from human embryos, then performing experiments on them. Senate bill 2754, which allows for any stem cell research that does not destroy a human embryo, also passed with all 100 senators voting yes! Unfortunately, House Resolution 810, which expands federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, passed 63-37, with Senator McCain voting “yes” and Senator Kyl voting “no.” These three bills will be sent to the President’s desk as early as tomorrow. President Bush is expected to sign the fetal farming ban and the “alternative” stem cell bill. President Bush has repeatedly promised to veto the embryonic stem cell bill – legislation that would authorize your tax dollars to fund the destruction of human life, and would be the first veto of his presidency.
